The Arbitration Association of the Republic of China, or the Chinese Arbitration Association, Taipei (CAA) is a not-for-profit organization based in Taipei, Taiwan, providing wide-range of dispute settlement administration services, including arbitration, mediation and other alternative dispute resolution proceedings under either its own rules or any other rules and procedures the parties mutual agree. The Association has been offering efficient, flexible and impartial administration of arbitration proceedings since 1955, previously under the name of Commercial Arbitration Association of the Republic of China. In 1996, in response to the passage of the Republic of China Arbitration Law, the Association was reorganized and assumed its current name. In recent times, the Association has entered into a new phase of expansion by establishing the CAA Mediation Center and adding the Dispute Review Board (DRB), providing the public with two new, inexpensive, and efficient choices of alternative dispute resolution. Today, the Association is the leading arbitral institution in Taiwan and one of the important Asian-Pacific regional arbitration centers handling more than 200 domestic and international arbitration cases per year. Its panel of arbitrators consists of highly regarded foreign and domestic attorneys-at-law and university professors capable of handling complex, cross-border disputes. For international business investors, the CAA is an ideal institution to arbitrate or mediate disputes, especially those arising from business relationship with China, for it is a neutral forum outside of Mainland China, its capacity to administer bilingual proceedings, and the recognition and enforceability of its awards in China and beyond.
